Curtain rod length calculator

How wide should my curtain rod be?

Choose how far the rod should extend past each side of your window. Nenxo calculates the full span and checks it against the clear wall space you actually have on the left and right.

Window + wall space

Enter the geometry you can measure

Side extension is an editable planning choice, not a universal rule. Hardware-specific finials, brackets and support spacing still come from the rod manufacturer.

How far the rod itself should continue beyond the measured window on each side.
Measure to the nearest corner, cabinet or other obstacle.
Check this side separately; rooms are not always symmetrical.

The “use these measurements” link carries the values you entered into the full Nenxo planner when you choose it.

Why rod width is different from window width

An outside-mounted curtain rod normally extends beyond the window opening. The calculator does not assume a fixed amount; it uses the extension you enter on each side and keeps that choice visible.

Example: a 60 in window with 8 in of rod extension on the left and 8 in on the right produces a 76 in rod span. If there is 12 in of clear wall on both sides, 4 in remains between the planned rod end and each measured obstacle.

Check both sides independently

A corner on one side and open wall on the other can make a symmetrical extension impossible. Nenxo therefore compares the chosen extension with the left and right clear-wall measurements separately instead of assuming the room is centred.

What “rod length” does not include

The result is the planned rod or pole span. Decorative finials, end caps, manufacturer-specific bracket offsets and required centre supports vary by product. Check the exact hardware dimensions and instructions before ordering or drilling.

Next: turn rod width into curtains

Once you know the span, use the panel calculator to convert it into whole panels and packs, or open the full calculator to add curtain length and product comparison.
